Taking advantage of cinematography to develop Vietnam trip package has been of great concern lately. However, hardly have any actions been taken.Since the film called “ Pan and Neverland” produced by Warner Bros (Hollywood) was on air, more people all over the world know about Vietnam. There are many scenes in the film which are made in Vietnam. This is the first time that places such as Tam Coc Cave (Ninh Binh), Ha Long Bay (Quang Ninh) and En Cave (Quang Binh) have appeared in the film. And film producers begin to realise the link between cinematography and tourism
A great effect
It can be said that taking use of cinematography as a way to advertise tourism is being done by many countries and this method has shown certain effect. Take movies which won international prizes for example. As for Vietnam, there is an increase in the number of visitors to places such as Ha Long Bay, Hanoi capital and Hochiminh city when these places are introduced in famous French films such as Indochina or Lovers. However, this effect is not sustainable
Missing a lot of chances
We have missed a lot of chances to introduce Vietnam’s natural beauty to the world by means of cinematography.
We have turned down offers of film producers who want to make their scenes in Vietnam. A striking example is the movie “ Sky and Land” in 1994 which received Oscar third prize. There are many films which deal with war subject such as “ Home returing”, “Doomsday”, “If only I were a bird”. These films could have been produced in Vietnam, leaving Vietnam tourism makers deep regret.
Handshakes in need
We let a lot of chances slip but we can be optimistic. Lately, tourism makers begin to catch up with world latest trends. It is revealed that in 2016 Cinematography Department will ask domestic film producers to make documentary programs which last about 10-12 minutes. These programs will be shown at international conferences and film festivals. They will mention Vietnam tourism such as homestay, ecotourism, sea travelling or traditional villages.
Culture, Sports and Tourism Department has required local authorities to support foreign film producers. Vietnam tourism is warmly welcoming them. In September and October, film producer from Hongkong made surveys for their filming in Trang An ( Quang Binh), Ha Long Bay ( Quang Ninh) and Son Doong Cave ( Quang Binh). In the future, Tourism Department is going to welcome Bollywood, a film producer from India.
Mr Nguyen Ngoc Duc, head of International Cooperation Office of Tourism Department said “ We warmly welcome and try our best to facilitate international film producers coming to famous destinations in Vietnam. We should grab the opportunities to develop our tourism”
Vietnam has a number of spectacular views such as Trang An or terraced fields in Northwest. Besides, we have Ha Long Bay and Son Doong Cave which are regarded as Wonders of the world. We are confident that in the future more and more international film makers will go to Vietnam through handshakes of tourism sector with them.
