Starting from Nghiem Son mountains (Van Nam, China) of the height of 1.800 m, Nho Que river flows from West North to South East, passing through a dangerous mountainous area, and coming Lung Cu commune (Dong Van, Ha Giang). It goes on flowing through Tu San, along with Ma Pi Leng, and dividing itself into 2 ways when it meets Meo Vac. It flows to Cao Bang, and finally combines with Gam river at the Na Mat turning point.

People visiting Ha Giang often desires to conquer Ma Pi Leng, and see Nho Que river. They are like a “couple” of Ha Giang. The beauty is not perfect without one of them.

From the top of Ma Pi Leng looked down, Nho Que is peaceful, wild, and mysterious. You can feel the might of mountains, and rivers. It sometimes looks like a thread of the sky, sometimes looks like a dragon creeping gracefully through mountains, and clouds.

The combination of the might of Ma Pi Leng pass and the charm of Nho Que river is an unique beauty of Ha Giang.

Nho Que, wild and peaceful

Of its length of 192 km, Nho Que “spent” 46 km for Vietnam. Due to strong currents, Nho Que creates  very white flows among valleys, along with clouds, making Ha Giang mighty, and poetic.

There is a story of the origin of Nho Que river. Once upon a time, when mountain had not been divided into 2 parts, water flowing was stuck on one side of the mountain. On this side, water was higher and higher, while on the other side, land was arid, and people lacked of water.

One day, River’s God told Mountain’s God to move for water to flow. However, he pretended to sleep, and not hear anything. River’s God told Jade Emperor about this. Jade Emperor asked Mountain’s God to move, but he still pretended to sleep.

In one night of strong wind, Lightning’s God took his sword and cut the sky. Mountain’s God is cut into 2 parts. Water started to stream out. Where water comes, trees became green. From then on, water flowed, and flowed, and created Nho Que river.

Driving along with Happiness road to watch Nho Que river, you can explore all of its beauty. For centuries, it still keeps its blue to make Ha Giang more beautiful. It is a part of our country, a source of water for people’s  life.
