Get into debt because of doing homestay
Homestay is considered as “green travel”, and loved by most of foreigners. Travellers will stay the locals’ houses, and explore local custom as well as culture. Almost every travellers on all inclusive Vietnam vacation packages like homestay.
In Đắk Lua, Tan Phu, the locals has not completely taken advantage of all of this pattern’s potential after 2 years of development. Hosts still wait for travellers coming while the amount of capital is quite large.
* Lose foreign customers
From the starting day of coporating with Inno Company to do homestay (2011), Hai Hoa and his family can not forget the day when a group of 4 German people came their house. His little knowledge of German language finally had a chance to be used. He and guests talked happily. They stayed overnight and left. He was excited to welcome a new group of foreigners who has never come for 2 years. He was upset when seeing things bought for homestay, and said: “When participating in this program, I had to invest in fixing my house, and buy new things such as: refrigerator, pressure-cooker, washing machine, bed, cushion,… But, from that time to now, there has been only a group of German coming and leaving after one day and one night.” The loan The Tan Phu bank of Agriculture and Rural Development gave him has not been paid completely.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hanh has the same worry with Mr. Hai Hoa. He formerly planted strawberry trees, raising silkworms. Because his house has a suitable architecture for foreigners’ taste, Inno Viet Company asked hime to participate in the program. He borrowed nearly 70 millions dong to buy things, and re-decorate his house. Now he has not completely paid the debt. His family has welcomed a group of only 3 German to come and leave after a half of a day. He lies on a mat to sleep while cushion is covered and put aside. Other things such as sandals, spoons, forks, glasses is covered with nilon, and put in a cupboard.
In the end of this year when the contract is expired, Mr. Hoa attended to stop the contract.
* Providing more travellers
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Nhi, Vice President of People’s Committee assumes that it is very convenient to raise the locals’ income with homestay. It also can reduce invading forests. Now, a way is built to make it more convenient for travellers to come. He hopes that Cat Tien National Park can introduce travellers to the locals’ homestay site. It in included in supporting for economic development program for communes surrounding forests.
Mr. Trung Giao Duong, the leader of tourist group of Tourist Center of Cat Tien National Park, said that in making plans for Vietnam travel packages, they include tourist sites in Dak Lua in tour. Therefore, these tourist attractions will be supported in travellers in the future. However, they are not sure if travellers come or not.
